Week 12 Part B: Business Specific Tools

In recent years, TikTok has grown bigger and bigger.  With business functions, it has become a presence that cannot be ignored in SNS marketing.

What is TikTok ??

TikTok is an SNS that allows you to shoot, create, post, and share very short videos of 15 to 60 seconds.  The developer is ByteDance of China.

The Chinese version was released on September 29, 2016, and the service has started. And when the international version including Japan was released on September 13, 2017, it entered the top of the overall ranking of the App Store in November of the same year, and in 2018 it caused a big boom mainly among young people.

TikTok has features that other SNS such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook do not have. For example, TikTok does not have features such as "retweet" and "share" like Twitter and Facebook.  However, at one point, the posted video may suddenly go viral. The fastest way to go viral is to be listed in the "Recommended" column. TikTok's "Recommendations" show a series of hot videos, from which most users discover new videos. The method of listing in "Recommended" has not been revealed, but it is presumed that it is a condition that many "likes" and comments are received in a short period of time, and that the content is highly topical at that moment.

Business utilization

When TikTok was first released, it had no business features and was a platform dedicated to personal use.  However, when TikTok became famous in Japan, an advertising service was added so that it could deliver advertisements using influencers.

And in August 2019, they implemented a professional account function, and it is possible to analyze the number of reach of posts and the increase rate of followers regardless of company or individual.

Furthermore, in June 2020, a platform specializing in business utilization called "TikTok for Business" was finally launched. Therefore, I think Business utilization of TikTok is likely to accelerate in the future.
